Blue Ridge Emmaus Women’s Walk #51 September 14-17, 2006

roosterroosterrooster

A Note from our Community Lay Director:

Blessings to each of you of the Blue Ridge Emmaus Community. I would like to report some of the information received from Fran Henderson from the Upper Room Emmaus.  She came on May 6 for the seminars with the board members and then with the Blue Ridge Emmaus Community.  Even though we had a small attendance, it was a very well informed seminar to help our community see how to be in accordance with the Emmaus Bylaws and guidelines. One item discussed was about who attends the Emmaus functions.  According to the Upper Room Emmaus ONLY Emmaus Community members are to attend events on the walk weekend as follows:

1.  Send off on Thursday
2.  Candlelight on Saturday
3.  Closing on Sunday

I know in the past, family members, children and even friends who are not of the Blue Ridge Emmaus Community, have been present at some of these events on the Walk weekend.  The weekend is for the pilgrim and usually a personal time in their life.  Any distractions from the “outside world” on the walk may cause upsets of some sort.  Please be aware of this and let’s try to abide by the guidelines provided by the Upper Room.   Family members and children are very welcome to attend Follow ups/Gatherings where all present are there to share God’s love and enjoy the fellowship with one another.

Sponsorship was discussed at the seminar as well. Just to inform you about Sponsorship of a Pilgrim, here is a list of people NOT to sponsor for a walk to Emmaus:
1.  A Non-Christian- An Emmaus weekend is not a place to save souls
2.  Church hoppers and/or soap boxers
3.  Persons with emotional crisis
4.  A person with restrictions or celebrations that Emmaus cannot provide
5.  A person with unique beliefs.

Reunions groups were another subject discussed and one thing the community needs is an accurate list of Reunion Groups and contact numbers.  If you are a contact number person in your reunion group would you please email me at pcweaver@bellsouth.net. I need the following information:

1.  Name of your Reunion Group
2.  Place and time Group meets

3.  Contact person and contact number

4.  Names of members in your group

It is very important for the community to have an updated list and for the Team Selection committee to be aware of those involved in a Reunion Group.  If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact me.

NOW, what a great time we had at the 50 Walks Celebration June 24th at Camp Tekoa.  It was such a wonderful day of fun and fellowship.   I want to thank each one of you by name that participated in anyway but I’m afraid I would omit someone…so a BIG THANK YOU to all involved with getting the place, the food, the cake walk, the auction, the music, the activities and your attendance.

God is so good and it is a Blessing for me to be associated with others who love the Lord as each of you do.

De Colores!
Peggy Weaver, Community Lay Director

THIS  SPACE  AVAILABLE!!

Do you or someone you know in Blue Ridge Emmaus want to find a way to be more involved? Well the Nominations Committee is looking for people with a servant's heart to fill several upcoming vacancies on the Board of Directors. The Committee Chairs who rotate off their 3 year commitment this year are Dining Room, Clergy Rep., Kitchen, Set-up/Tear Down, and Purchasing. Being the Committee Chair does NOT obligate you to doing the role on the weekends, merely making sure it is done. The Blue Ridge Emmaus Community will be voting on persons nominated soon. If you have a name to suggest or more questions, please contact Phillip Crouch at philcrouch@charter.net or call (828) 274-4554.

FALL GATHERING

The First UMC of Hendersonville will host the Fall Gathering for the Emmaus Community on Tuesday, Setpember 12 at 7:00 pm. This Gathering is open to all Pilgrims, spouses, family and friends who may be interested in attending a future Emmaus Walk. The First UMC Emmaus Community will provide coffee, tea and soft drinks. We would appreciate others bringing a dessert. Child Care will be provided so younger families can more easily attend. The following assistance is needed: 1) Advertise the Gathering and encourage other Community members to attend; 2) Bring desserts; and 3) Come ready to praise the Lord and fellowship with the Community!
Please call or email Donna Hastie @ (828) 696-0703 or hastiedj@bellsouth.net if you plan on attending and bringing a dessert so they can plan appropriately. Thanks!

Candlelight Comments

An email survey was conducted with the community. Results - the majority who responded desired Candlelight to be held on the grounds of Christmount. With gas prices, car pooling is a great idea!
With limited parking perhaps groups could meet at the Ingles parking lot in Black Mountain, leave some cars there, then ride on out to Christmount together!
Come attend our Candlelight service for great fellowship, joyful songs and service. Come support our pilgrims and team. You are sure to receive a rich blessing.

FROM THE COMMUNITY SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR: 50TH WALK CELEBRATION

This event was a great success. We had about 150 people attend. We had great fellowship and all had a wonderful time. The Board would like to express our appreciation to all of those who helped make it such a success. Some brought cakes for the cake-walk, some brought food, some prepared the hamburgers and hot dogs and helped set up and clean up. We also had donations for our "Silent Auction". In addition to all of that, many people gave of their time and energy to make the day a memorable one by volunteering to help in other ways. Thank you, to all of those who participated. We may do another picnic in the future. Let us know if you would enjoy that.

Dick Campbell
Chair of the Picnic Committee
(Community Spiritual Director)
