Not Sure What To Do This Weekend?

Please note that you do not have to have a Pilgrim on the Walk to participate in any of these Community wide activities throughout the Weekend. All members of the Emmaus Community are encouraged to attend Send-off/Sponsor‘s Hour, Candlelight, Closing and Follow-up.You are also encouraged to work in the kitchen and dining room, lift up prayers in the prayer chapel, place your name on the prayer banner and pray up the Walk, and always remember the need for snack foods, drinks, and baked goods.You may not have a Pilgrim on this Walk, but the Pilgrims and Team still needthe support of the Blue Ridge Emmaus Community in all facets of the Weekend.

SEND OFF – Thursday @ 6:45 p.m. - Camp Tekoa, 211 Thomas Road, Hendersonville, NC– Dining Hall

Directions: Take I-26 to Exit 53 (Upward Road). Turn WEST towards Hendersonville (keep right on ramp).  Travel on Upward Road and (crossing over Hwy 176) Highland Lake Road to Hwy. 225 (You will go STRAIGHT at Ingles.)  Turn left on Hwy. 225, go .8 mile and turn right onto Little River Road.  Follow Little River Road until it dead ends at the intersection of Crabcreek Road.  Turn left onto Crabcreek Road and travel .4 mile Turn right onto Thomas Road. Go .2 miles, and the entrance to the camp will be on the left. will be posted soon.

SPONSOR’S HOUR – Immediately following Send Off.
Camp Tekoa Dining Hall – Sponsors need to stay for this to pray over your pilgrim‘s cross!

CANDLELIGHT – Saturday,  @ 7:45 p.m. - East Flat Rock United Methodist (EFRUM). 

Directions to EFRUM: Take I-26 to Exit 53 (Upward Road). Turn WEST towards Hendersonville (keep right on ramp). Travel approimately 1.4 miles and at the 5th traffic light Upward Road intersects Hwy. 176 (Ingles grocery across the Highway). Turn left on Hwy. 176E and go approximately 1 mile to traffic light and EFRUM Church is on the right.

CLOSING – Sunday @ 4:30 p.m. - Camp Tekoa - Dining Hall

FOLLOW-UP – Friday, April 18th, 2008 @ 7 p.m.,Trinity UMC, 587 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC  28806



Sponsor's Responsibilities

Before the Walk
• Provide application and “What Is Emmaus” book for your applicant.
• Begin praying for your applicant.
Pick up completed application and book.
Fill out sponsor’s form.
Mail completed application, sponsor’s form, and $50 deposit.
Meet with the applicant and family. Tell them about possible changes and answer all questions.
Begin collecting agape letters from family and friends, well in advance.
Sign up for a slot on the 72-hour Prayer Vigil.
Pay the remaining money for the walk.

During the Walk
Do something special for your Pilgrim’s family this weekend.
Check on them and answer any questions they may have.

Thursday
Pick up your Pilgrim.  They need their own twin sheets, blankets, towels and pillows!
Take them to dinner (optional).
Have them at Camp Tekoa, no later than 6:45 pm.
Take them to registration.
Carry their bags to their room.  Make their bed for them.
Take them to the send-off location by 7:00 pm (Bring a snack to share.)
Introduce them to their roommate.
It is important for sponsors to remain after Send-off for Sponsor's Hour to pray for your Pilgrim and over their cross.
Turn in the agape letters, approximately 12, and a special snack (to be shared by everyone) for your pilgrim.

Friday
Work in the kitchen/dining area if possible, your pilgrim should not see you.
Visit the Prayer Chapel and pray for Pilgrims, Walk, and the Community.

Saturday
Work in the kitchen/dining area if possible, your Pilgrim should not see you.
Visit the Prayer Chapel and pray for Pilgrims, Walk, and the Community.
Attend Candlelight at East Flat Rock United Methodist. Community gathers at 8:00 pm.
Remember, boundaries – No touching or hugging!

Sunday
Work in the kitchen/dining area if possible, your Pilgrim should not see you.
Visit the Prayer Chapel and pray for Pilgrims, Walk, and the Community.
Be at Closing. Closing is scheduled for 4:30. This will be the first time your pilgrim will see you — Smile ☺
Help your Pilgrim with their bags.
Take Pilgrim home.

After the Walk
Call your Pilgrim on Monday evening to see how their first Fourth Day went. Be prepared for a long conversation.
Have your Pilgrim at follow-up on Friday night. Bring a snack to follow-up. Get your Pilgrim into a Reunion Group.
